Founder, Secret Code
Mara believes you can find fulfillment with side hustles that can later take you to your next career move.
Mara is an advertising creative director by trade, previously at AKQA, 72andSunny and BETC Paris, working for brands like Nike, Starbucks and Verizon. She has always had side hustles to let off steam from the corporate life, until one of them has turned into a business.
Mara created Secret Code, a customizable children’s book that stars your little girl as a tech hero. She won a grant by Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss Foundation, won the venture competition Project Entrepreneur by the Rent The Runway Foundation, is represented by the talent agent WME, and has her first publishing deal with Rox’s Secret Code coming out in bookstores in November distributed by Penguin-Randomhouse. Mara is currently working on growing Secret Code into a customizable children’s media company that makes girls see themselves as heroes of powerful industries.
Mara is also the founder of Where Are The Boss Ladies, a crowd-sourced list of 1,000+ female executive leaders in advertising—a place where ladies, ad agencies and companies who lack female role models are finding their next leaders.
Mara realized later there was a connecting thread between her side hustles, and has found her life mission thanks to them: bring diversity to male-dominated industries by inspiring little girls to get in them, and women to remain in them.
